May festival 2025
Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti in 2025 will be celebrated on Friday, 9 May.
Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti, also known as Rabindra Jayanti, is an annual cultural celebration commemorating the birth anniversary of one of India's greatest literary icons, Rabindranath Tagore. In 2025, Rabindra Jayanti will be observed on Friday, 9 May. This date corresponds to the 25th day of the Bengali month of Boishakh, the day Tagore was born in 1861, according to the Bengali calendar. The celebration of Rabindra Jayanti is particularly significant in the Indian state of West Bengal and among Bengali communities across the world.
Rabindranath Tagore was a polymath whose contributions span literature, music, art, philosophy, and education. He was the first non-European to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his collection of poems, "Gitanjali." Tagore's influence on Indian and global thought is profound; he reshaped Bengali literature and music and played a significant role in India's cultural and political awakening.
Born into an aristocratic and culturally rich family in Jorasanko, Kolkata, Tagore began writing poetry at an early age and published his first major collection by the time he was a teenager. Over his lifetime, he composed over 2,000 songs, including the national anthems of India (Jana Gana Mana) and Bangladesh (Amar Shonar Bangla). His music, known as Rabindra Sangeet, remains a cornerstone of Bengali culture. His works traverse genres and include poems, short stories, novels, plays, essays, and travelogues, many of which carry deep philosophical, social, and political undertones.

Subject: Heartfelt Wishes on the Auspicious Occasion of Buddha Purnima
Dear Friends,
On this sacred day of Buddha Purnima, observed on 12 May 2025, I extend my warmest wishes to all of you. This day marks the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana (final liberation) of Gautama Buddha, a spiritual teacher whose message of peace, compassion, and wisdom continues to inspire millions around the world.
Lord Buddha’s life is a beacon of simplicity, self-realization, and universal brotherhood. Born as Prince Siddhartha in Lumbini, his journey from royal luxury to renunciation reflects the search for deeper truth. His enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya over 2500 years ago paved the way for a philosophy that advocates non-violence (Ahimsa), mindfulness, and the Middle Path—avoiding both extremes of indulgence and severe austerity.
In today’s world, marked by materialism, conflict, and mental unrest, the teachings of Buddha are more relevant than ever. His Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path offer practical guidance on overcoming suffering and attaining inner peace. As we celebrate this holy day, let us take a moment to reflect on our own lives and actions. Are we living mindfully? Are we kind and compassionate to others?
Buddha Purnima is not just a day of worship but a reminder of the values that can elevate humanity. Let us pledge to practice tolerance, speak with love, act with integrity, and strive for a world where peace prevails over hatred.
May the light of Buddha’s teachings guide us toward enlightenment in our own lives. Let us walk together on the path of truth, kindness, and harmony.
With heartfelt greetings on this auspicious day,
