 Maha Shivaratri Festival – 15 February 2026

Maha Shivaratri, meaning “The Great Night of Shiva,” is a significant Hindu festival celebrated with immense devotion across India and in Hindu communities worldwide. In 2026, Maha Shivaratri falls on 15 February, a sacred night dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva, the destroyer and transformer in the Hindu Trinity.

The festival is observed on the 14th night of the dark fortnight in the month of Phalguna (February–March). It symbolizes the overcoming of darkness and ignorance in life. Devotees observe fasting, offer prayers, chant mantras like “Om Namah Shivaya,” and stay awake all night in meditation and worship. Temples are beautifully decorated, and special rituals such as the Rudrabhishekam (ritual bathing of the Shiva Lingam) are performed using milk, honey, curd, and water.

According to legend, Maha Shivaratri marks the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Another popular belief is that on this night, Shiva performed the cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and destruction – the Tandava. Spiritual seekers consider it an auspicious time to attain inner peace and enlightenment.

As Maha Shivaratri 2026 approaches, devotees prepare to celebrate with reverence, seeking Lord Shiva’s blessings for strength, wisdom, and liberation from worldly attachments. It is not just a religious observance but a night of spiritual transformation and deep devotion.

Shivaji Jayanti 2025

Shivaji Jayanti is celebrated every year on February 19th to honor the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the great Maratha warrior king and founder of the Maratha Empire. In 2025, Shivaji Jayanti holds special significance as people across Maharashtra and India commemorate this inspiring leader’s 395th birth anniversary.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born on February 19, 1630, at the Shivneri Fort in Maharashtra. He is remembered for his courage, administrative skills, and dedication to Swarajya (self-rule). He fought against the Mughal Empire and various other rulers to establish a strong and independent Maratha kingdom. Shivaji Maharaj promoted the use of the Marathi language in administration and respected all religions, making him a symbol of unity and good governance.

On February 19, 2025, various events are planned to celebrate Shivaji Jayanti. Schools, colleges, and cultural organizations will organize parades, speeches, essay competitions, and plays based on Shivaji Maharaj’s life. People will garland his statues, sing patriotic songs, and recount his valorous deeds. In cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Kolhapur, grand processions with traditional attire, dhol-tasha performances, and historical reenactments will take place.

Shivaji Jayanti is not just a day to remember a historical figure but an occasion to draw inspiration from his ideals of bravery, justice, and self-reliance. The 2025 celebration serves as a reminder to the youth to uphold these values in their lives and work towards a better society.

Ramadan Begins – A Month of Reflection and Renewal (19 February 2026)

As the crescent moon is sighted and the sun sets on 19 February 2026, Muslims across the globe welcome the blessed month of Ramadan, a sacred time for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and devotion. This annual observance, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, unites millions in fasting from dawn to sunset, increased prayer, and acts of kindness.

Ramadan is not just a time of abstaining from food and drink, but a journey of the soul—a period to cleanse the heart, strengthen one's relationship with Allah (SWT), and deepen empathy for those in need. Families gather before dawn for suhoor and come together at sunset for iftar, often breaking their fast with dates and water, as was the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Mosques are filled with the melodious recitation of the Qur’an during nightly Taraweeh prayers, and charitable giving (zakat and sadaqah) increases, reinforcing the spirit of community and compassion.

As Ramadan 2026 begins, let us embrace this sacred month with open hearts and sincere intentions. May our fasts be accepted, our prayers answered, and our souls renewed. Let us remember those who are struggling and extend our hands in generosity and love.

Ramadan Mubarak to all—may peace, patience, and blessings be upon you and your families.
